Considerations Before You Get Started

Although you may have heard that ink stains may be removed with hairspray, we don’t advise doing so. It was fairly effective years ago, back when aerosol hairspray cans all contained a significant amount of alcohol. But modern hairsprays have significantly less alcohol and a lot more conditioners and emollients. In addition to leaving behind more stains and residue, using hairspray as a stain remover may not be as successful at getting rid of the specific ink stain.

When things get tight, you can use hand sanitiser without skin softeners and with a high alcohol concentration. On the other hand, we suggest using the following techniques to remove different kinds of ink stains from clothes.

How To Get Ink Out Of Clothes

Avoid Ink Transfer

To stop the ink from leaking into other areas of the clothing, use several layers of paper towels underneath the stained area.

Blot Away Ink

Wipe any recent ink spills with a paper towel. Blot, don’t rub. Rubbing the stain may amplify it or cause it to seep farther into the fibres of the fabric.

Treat the Stain With Isopropyl Alcohol

Use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol or clear drinking alcohol such as vodka or gin to dunk a cotton swab. Using the alcohol-soaked swab, dab the stain starting from the outside edge and moving toward the middle. As the ink transfers, replace the swab with a fresh one. Use a dry paper towel to aid in absorbing the dissolved ink. If the stain is really big, you can apply alcohol to the afflicted region with an eye dropper. Make sure there are towels beneath the stain and continue to dab to absorb any remaining liquid.

Rinse the Fabric

Rinse the area with cold water when the stain has mostly disappeared.

Pretreat the Stain

Apply a small amount of strong detergent to the discoloured region and gently rub it into the cloth using your fingers or a gentle bristle brush. Before washing the clothing, give the detergent at least ten minutes to do its job.

Wash the Garment

Follow the washing instructions found on the care tag.

Check the Stained Area

Before you put the item in the dryer, make sure the stained area is checked. Repeat the stain removal procedures if the stain persists. Can’t immediately cure it again? You can let the fabric air dry; just keep it out of the dryer.
