How to Delete a Gmail Account (Step by Step Guide)

by Oliver Liam

Deleting a Gmail account is a complicated process that varies slightly depending on which version of Gmail you have. If you have the standard or web interface, then you can follow the steps below to permanently remove your Gmail account. If you have a Google Apps account, then you’ll need to contact a support specialist.

You can permanently delete your Gmail account in one of two ways: manually or automatically. If you have a standard or web interface Gmail account, then you can follow the steps below to manually delete your account. If you have a Google Apps account, then you’ll need to contact a support specialist.

Manually Deleting Your Gmail Account

Manually deleting your Gmail account is the best way to get your personal information off of the service.

If you no longer need your Gmail, then this is the perfect way to delete your account permanently. First, you’ll need to locate the email address associated with your account. If you can’t find it, you can find it in the Settings page, under the “Apps” section.

Once you know your account email address, then follow the steps below to delete your Gmail account.

Step 1: Sign in to Gmail

First, you’ll need to sign in to your Gmail account. If you’ve ever selected “Inactive Account” or deleted an account through the “Apps” section of Google, then you already have a logged-in account. The only thing left to do is select “Apps” and then “Deactivate” to remove your account from the apps section.

Step 2: Select “More” in the drop-down menu

Next, you’ll need to select “More” in the drop-down menu in the top-right corner of the page. From here, you’ll want to select “Settings.”

Step 3: Select “Settings”

Select “Settings” in the drop-down menu in the top-right corner of the page to open the Settings page for your account.

Step 4: Select “General”

From the “Settings” page, select “More” in the top-right corner of the page, then select “General.”

Step 5: Select “Delete My Account”

Finally, you’ll want to select “Delete My Account” in the General section of the Settings page to open the Delete Account page. From here, just select “Delete My Account” and your account will be deleted.

Gmail will prompt you to confirm that you want to permanently delete your Gmail account. Confirm this by clicking on the radio button next to “Delete My Account.”

Once you’ve selected “Delete My Account,” your Gmail account will be permanently deleted. You will no longer have access to your Gmail, and any messages you have will be permanently deleted.

Automatically Deleting Your Gmail Account

If you have a standard or web interface Gmail account, then you can also set up Gmail to delete your account automatically after a specified period of inactivity. This is a great option for people who switch computers frequently and don’t want to go through the trouble of deleting their account manually each time.
