Social media channels are the primary way for businesses to engage with their target audience and drive conversation around their brand—especially when it comes to growing an audience.
There are many social apps out there, and new ones emerge on a regular basis. We’ll take a look at two of the most popular social networks among businesses: Whatsapp and Telegram.
Both have sprung up as alternatives to other popular messaging apps such as Facebook Messenger or iMessage. They also both have a focus on privacy and security, making them ideal for business use.
There are some key differences between these two platforms that make one more appealing than the other depending on your specific needs as a business user.
Let’s dive into an in-depth comparison of Whatsapp vs Telegram so you can decide which is best for your company.
Whatsapp vs Telegram: What’s Unique About Each?
First, let’s take a look at what makes each app unique. Whatsapp is a household name, with well over one billion users globally. It’s also the most popular messaging app there is. With that kind of mass appeal and popularity, it’s made its name as a reliable and simple app to use.
Whatsapp is actually part of Facebook now. Because of that, it also has access to a wealth of data about its users.
That can be extremely helpful for businesses that are using the app to communicate with their customers. There are a couple of major differences between Whatsapp and Telegram that make each app unique. First, let’s take a look at the differences in the features offered by each.
Whatsapp for Businesses
Whatsapp for businesses is a huge part of what makes it such a powerful app. You can create a public or private group for you and your team to communicate with customers or potential customers. This can be beneficial in a variety of ways, from asking for feedback to building a community around your brand.
If you are interested in reaching people outside of your country, you can create a group with a country-specific thread. This allows you to communicate with people around the world more easily. Hosted webinars, online events, and other types of virtual seminars are also easily hosted and managed through Whatsapp.
This makes it easy to stay in touch with your customers, even if they’re not located near you.
Telegram for Businesses
If you are looking for a more secure app that doesn’t rely on collecting your customer data, Telegram is a good option. It offers encrypted messaging, with end-to-end encryption. This protects your data from falling into the wrong hands.
Telegram is also a lot more robust than Whatsapp when it comes to media and file sharing.
You can download files and images directly to your phone, and you have access to a broader range of formatting and media tools. Telegram has more robust tools for managing your business communications than Whatsapp.
You can set up one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-one group discussions on Telegram. This makes it a much more comprehensive business tool than Whatsapp.
Key Differences Between Whatsapp and Telegram for Businesses
When it comes to the differences between Whatsapp and Telegram for businesses, the key thing to remember is that one is a closed, private platform, and the other is an open, public platform. This has a major impact on how each of these apps works for business communications.
WhatsApp is a closed platform, which means business communications are private and not publicly searchable. This is ideal for communicating with customers and potential customers. Telegram, on the other hand, is an open platform.
This means that public communications are searchable, and anyone can join your group or channel. This can be great for engaging with a larger audience but might not be ideal if you’re communicating with customers.
Why You Should Use Whatsapp for Business
Now that we’ve covered the benefits of using Whatsapp for your business, let’s look at why you should use it. Whatsapp is incredibly popular, with billions of users around the world.
It’s also incredibly simple to use. If you’re looking to reach customers or other audiences in different countries, Whatsapp is a great option.
It’s available in a broad range of languages. Whatsapp is also a closed platform, which allows you to engage in private communications with your customers. This is ideal for providing customer service, engaging with your audience, or simply communicating with people.
Bottom line? If you’re looking for a relatively simple and straightforward app that’s widely available, then you should use Whatsapp for your business communications.
Why You Should Use Telegram for Business
Now that we’ve covered the benefits of using Telegram for your business, let’s look at why you should use it. Telegram is a closed platform, meaning that all communications are private. This is ideal for communicating with customers or potential customers.
Telegram is also much more robust than Whatsapp when it comes to media and file sharing. You can download files and images directly to your phone, and you have access to a broader range of formatting and media tools.
This makes it a great option for businesses who want to engage with customers but don’t want to collect or share data.
