How To Clean And Clear Curtain

Which of these three methods you choose to clean your curtains will typically depend on the type of material and construction of your window coverings. Hand wash silks and sheers, for instance, and keep an eye out for specialist fabrics like velvet or lined drapes that would need to be dry cleaned or spot cleaned (which, incidentally, might result in some shrinkage). When laundered at home, curtains made of cotton or linen may also shrink slightly. When washing your curtains, it’s usually best to follow the care instructions found on the sewn-in label. How To Clean And Clear Curtain

Spot-Test Your Curtains

First, look over the care label on your curtains. Consider spot-testing a small corner of your curtains with a solution of water and a tiny quantity of liquid dish soap or laundry detergent if you’re unsure about their colourfastness.

Check to see whether any colour is transferred by dabbing the area with a white cloth or paper towel. You can still choose to machine-wash the cloth or paper towel if it has colour, but you should use cold water and the gentle cycle on your washer.

Remove Hardware

Before placing your curtains in the washing machine, take off any hardware, including rings, clips, hooks, and pins.

Place Delicates in a Bag

Before washing delicate lace or sheer curtains in the washing machine, place them in a mesh bag. The curtains won’t fray or sustain any other harm thanks to the bag.

When in a hurry, stuff fragile curtains into an old pillowcase the same colour as the curtains and secure it tightly with a knee sock you don’t mind getting stretched or stained.

Select Cold Water

Select the cold water setting on your appliance. The majority of washable curtains must be cleaned in cold water with a tiny bit of laundry soap.

Dry the Curtains

For washable curtains, either line dry them or use a clothes dryer on the low setting. If you are using a dryer, remove the curtains from the machine when they are around 95% dry. Wrinkles will form if the curtains are over-dried, but if you remove the curtains while they’re still a little moist, ironing will be easy.

Iron Curtains if Necessary

If you need to iron your curtains quickly, use a small white towel or T-shirt between the curtain fabric and the iron to protect it. Rehang your curtains after replacing the curtain hardware.

How to Clean Curtains by Hand

Pour water into the basin or sink: To make it easier to soak your curtains, fill the sink or basin with lukewarm or cool water.

Incorporate Detergent: A few drops of liquid laundry or dish soap should be added. To make suds, swish the detergent in the water.

Put in Curtains: Put the curtains in the water with suds. To remove any dirt, gently swish the fabric around in the water.

Clean the drapes: Pour the soapy water out of the bucket or let it run down the drain. Replace with fresh water that is lukewarm to chilly. To remove the suds, swish the curtains in the water. Rinse the curtains repeatedly in clear water until the suds are completely removed.

Extract Extra Water: Place every curtain panel flat on a clean, dry, thick white towel (or a towel matching the curtains’ colour). Roll up the towel loosely and gently to get rid of extra water from the curtain panel.

Allow to Air Dry: When the panels are somewhat damp but not drenched, hang them up to dry (don’t replace the curtains on the window just yet).
