Xiaomi has unveiled a new gaming smartphone, the Xiaomi Black Shark 4, which is a sequel to the Xiaomi Black Shark 3 that was released in March 2020. The Black Shark 4 is a sequel to the Black Shark 3, bringing with it more capable smartphone hardware wrapped in a new design.
Design and Display
This year, Xiaomi decided to buck the norm by adopting a design that reflects the variation in the theme seen on previous Shark models. The Xiaomi Black Shark 4 has a typical smartphone look with little indicators that it is a gaming smartphone.
This shift to a more modest smartphone design might be interpreted as Xiaomi attempting to make the Shark series of smartphones suitable for both gamers and normal customers looking for top-of-the-line Android performance.
When looking at the back panel of the Black Shark 4, you’ll notice that the parts that hinted at the Black Shark 3’s gaming potential are missing. This year’s back cover has a gradient design with a camera module with triple cameras, the Shark symbol, and black shark branding.
Upfront, there’s a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a punch-hole camera in the top center and dual front cameras on the display’s top and bottom bezels.
The display has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a density of about 395 pixels per inch, a 720Hz touch sampling rate, and a 144Hz refresh rate, similar to the Asus Rog Phone 5.
Ergonomics
We already have smartphones with top-of-the-line hardware, such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra; yet, what distinguishes ordinary smartphones from gaming smartphones are the extras they include, additions that make them more ideal for gaming. These accessories fall under the category of ergonomics.
The Black Shark 4 has shoulder buttons that can be linked to game controllers, similar to previous Shark releases, giving you additional screen real estate. Xiaomi announced that the shoulder buttons have been upgraded with a magnetic power lift technology that makes them more haptic. We also have a pressure-sensitive display in addition to the shoulder buttons.
In addition to the shoulder buttons, the Black Shark 2 has a pressure-sensitive display, which I really loved. You may remap the controls of a mobile game to be a little more comfortable using the shoulder buttons and a screen like this.
