Once upon a time, intricate nail art with precise, fine lines required amazing freehand skills. With the use of stamping, a process that involves embedding nail polish in engraved designs and using a stamper to put the image onto the nail, any technician can now create stunning nail art quickly. It’s a fast and simple method to create gorgeous nails with minimal time and effort if you practice.

Three fundamental tools are needed for stamping: a scraper, a silicone or rubber-tipped stamper, and stamping plates. Stamping plates are typically etched with several designs on a thin steel surface. Designs can be as simple as little accents or as elaborate as intricate patterns covering a full nail or beautiful French tips.
Deeply engraved plates typically produce the clearest images. When you first start stamping, stay away from patterns with a lot of tiny details. If you don’t work rapidly enough, small details can dry out soon and won’t transfer effectively.
Size matters as well. Make sure to obtain plates with designs large enough to cover the nails if any of your clients wear long enhancements. The forms, sizes, and materials of scrapers and stampers vary, as does their stiffness and flexibility.
How To Master Nail Stamping
1. Ensure that everything you need is easily accessible before starting. You will also need a paper towel, cotton balls or pads, polish remover, tape, and quick-dry top coat in addition to a stamping plate, stamping polish, and scraper.
2. Paint two layers of a quick-dry top coat over base-colored nails. The application of a top coat shortens the waiting period before stamping and facilitates the rectification of errors, should they arise.
3. Place the stamping plate on a level surface and cover the selected design with polish. Scrape the extra lacquer off the plate right away by scrubbing the polish over it at a 45-degree angle with the scraper. Following scraping, the plate’s surface should be clean and the wet polish should completely fill the design’s grooves.
4. Roll the stamper across the design in a single, forceful, smooth motion to remove the image from the stamping plate. Finding the ideal pressure takes practice; if you use too much, the polish may squeeze out of the grooves, and if you use too little, the design may become bare in certain places. As you operate, take care not to lift or move the stamper across the plate.
5. To ensure that the pattern is correctly aligned, place the stamper over the nail. (Note: This is particularly crucial for stamping French tips or centered patterns.)
To transfer the design, press the stamper onto one side of the nail once again with a single, fluid motion, then roll it carefully to the other side. Once more, you’ll have to work fast! The polish on the stamper will start to dry in about two seconds, which will prevent the design from fully transferring.
After finishing, wipe the plate’s grooves and the stamper if there is any dried polish left there before continuing. TIP: To keep the scraper clean for the next nail, wipe it immediately after using a paper towel.
6. Before continuing, use the sticky side of a piece of tape to clean the stamper of any remaining polish. Proceed with the remaining nails in the same manner. Next, remove any remaining design elements that have adhered to the skin.
7. Use a top coat to carefully seal the pattern. To avoid smearing the artwork, apply the top coat lightly and float it over the nail.
