How To make Deodorant At Home

Deodorant: Now, before you quit reading and conclude that I’ve gone insane, hear me out. I’m not braided my armpit hair and praying to my crystals at home (yet). I’m a hippie from the twenty-first century.

I believe in Western medicine, and I feel that stressing over the purity of your meals and personal care products is about as healthy as bathing in a sugar-paraben cocktail. But, as a former natural beauty snob, I implore you to have an open mind about some alternative products.

How To Make Deodorant At Home

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons coconut oil, unrefined
  • 2 1/2 tbsp shea butter, unrefined
  • 1/4 cup arrowroot flour/starch
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 6 drops essential lavender oil
  • 6 drops essential oil of grapefruit
  • 1 drop essential oil of tea tree (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  • In a glass bowl or container, combine the coconut oil and shea butter and set it inside a medium sauce pan.
  • Bring the water to a boil in the saucepan (enough to cover the bowl/jar but not to overflow it).
  • While the water is heating up, keep stirring the coconut oil and shea butter until it melts.
  • Add the arrowroot starch, baking soda, and essential oils once the butter has melted.
  • Allow to chill at room temperature or in the fridge (it will harden faster in the fridge) until it reaches a solid state.
  • Cover until ready to use.

Use instructions:

somewhat damp underarms (this helps with even application)
Using a wooden scoop or your fingers, scoop out a pea-sized amount and rub between your fingers before applying straight to your underarms.
One application in the morning should suffice for a typical day. Reapply as needed on warm days, during workouts, or if you’re very sweating.
