How to Clean a Cutting Board With Natural Ingredients

Vinegar

For centuries, people have cleaned with vinegar. Most likely because it was once the strongest acid available for purchase, it eliminates mold, bacteria, and germs (viruses) due to its acidic qualities. No, it doesn’t smell like a chip store, but it’s a terrific all-around cleaner! However, vinegar breaks down minerals; thus, it works well for water stains but not so well for marble or stone worktops.

Salt

We’re discussing your inexpensive table salt, which I hope you’re not consuming! Use only ordinary salt; don’t use up your sea salt or rock salt. It works well as an abrasive on its own, but when mixed with vinegar, it becomes an extremely effective antibacterial combination. By dehydrating the bacteria, salt eliminates all of the moisture from their membranes. A bit harsh, but it’s there.

After every usage, wood cutting boards should be cleaned, but you don’t want to use harsh chemicals that could damage them.

As a result, you can use salt to clean your wooden cutting board.

This is how you go about it:

Step 1: Apply the salt to the cutting board and use it as a gentle abrasive by rubbing it in.

Step 2: Use hot water to rub the salt on the board until it dissolves completely, continuing to use the salt as an abrasive.

Step 3: Use a fresh towel to pat the cutting board dry, then let the remaining portion air dry.
