The Microsoft Surface Duo is a smartphone that puts Microsoft’s mobile division back in the spotlight, with a design that’s very different from what they’ve previously delivered. It’s a smartphone-tablet hybrid designed to make multitasking more convenient for enthusiasts. Furthermore, Microsoft abandoned the Windows Mobile OS in favour of Android, claiming that it is a better fit for a mobile device.
The Surface duo’s dual-display design is novel to Microsoft’s mobile division, but it isn’t new to the smartphone world. In the past, a number of other OEMs have released cellphones with this design including the LG Velvet and the ZTE Axon M both get honourable mentions.
The Microsoft Surface Duo essentially consists of two 5.6-inch AMOLED panels connected by a 360-degree hinge. The screen resolution for each display is 1800 x 1350 pixels.
The fact that these displays are held together by a hinge eliminates the requirement for them to be made of foldable material. As a result, unlike the original Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X, Microsoft chose glass over plastic for the displays.
When you open the Surface dual, you’ll see an 8.1-inch display with a 2700 x 1800 resolution. This display layout isn’t the most attractive of the bunch, which is aided by the huge bezels. The left bezel, on the other hand, holds a front-facing camera as well as an earpiece. When closed, we have a full covering composed of glass, namely Gorilla Glass 5.
The Cameras
The cameras on the Microsoft Surface Duo are some of the most understated on any smartphone released without a thousand-dollar price tag. The cameras aren’t really appropriate. When compared to other top-notch folding tabs in this range, this fact becomes much more apparent. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, which boasts a more impressive camera arrangement, receives honourable mentions.
The Surface duo has a single 11MP camera that can be used for both the front and rear cameras. The hinge in the middle makes this possible. All you have to do is flip the screen to acquire the camera position you want.
The aperture on this 11MP camera is f/2.0. It can record video in 4K at 60 frames per second. It can also record video in 1080p@30/60fps.
