Mascara Mistakes That Cause Clumping

Using After It Has Expired

Even if you don’t use mascara every day, it expires after three months from the date of opening. Expired mascara is not only thought to be unclean, but also more likely to dry out, and cause flakes, and clumps.

Pumping The Wand

You’ve probably seen someone wand in and out of the mascara tube to get more product; doing this will hasten the expiration of your mascara.

By forcing air into the solution and drying it off, pumping your mascara wand will inevitably result in clumps. Moreover, it can increase flaking. To keep mascara fresh, avoid this by swirling the brush inside rather than pumping.

Using Too Much Product

With just one or two thin coats of mascara, length and volume can be increased. Nonetheless, using forcefully almost always backfires. Each lash is carefully coated when applying mascara with feather-like strokes, creating a neat and delineated appearance.

Adding layers too quickly or slowly

Coupled with using too much product, flaking, spider lashes, and clumps can also be caused by waiting too long or too little time between coats. About 15 to 30 seconds is the optimal amount of time to wait between layers so that the mascara can settle but not dry fully.

Changing The Directions The Wand Is Moved

Although layering on top of the lash or moving the brush back and forth might produce a more dramatic appearance, clumps are far more prone to form. Even distribution is made possible by dispersing the product in one direction.

Just twist the lash root a little before swiping upward. As you brush, this causes an event coat and tangles, which lifts, defines, and separates the hair.

Using a Wand with a Thick Mascara Film

You could find that your mascara wand has some accumulation after using it for a month or two. They may be product layers or dried-up flakes that have accumulated over time. A short cleanup can correct the imprecise application caused by using a dirty wand.
