Comprehending Your Puffer Jacket
An exterior fabric, usually polyester or another synthetic fiber, and inside insulation are stitched together in rows to form a puffer jacket. Synthetic filler or natural down feathers can be used as insulation. Although down is more costly, it offers more warmth per pound of insulation. An excellent substitute that works better in highly damp situations is synthetic fibers, typically polyester spun to generate air pockets between the fibers.
The insulation is what gives you the desired warmth because the exterior fabric is light. The insulation’s air pockets, or loft, retain body heat. - Empty your jacket’s pockets and concealed spaces. After removing any removable components, zip, snap, or button the jacket.
- Apply a little amount of mild detergent to badly discolored regions, which are frequently seen at collars and cuffs. To allow the detergent to start breaking down the dirt, work the substance into the soiled area with your fingertips and let the jacket sit for ten to fifteen minutes before washing.
How to Wash a Puffer Jacket Without It Losing Shape

A top-loading washer with an impeller in the drum’s bottom is the next best option. Choose the cool water settings and delicate or mild cycle when your jacket is ready to be washed. If at all feasible, add a second rinse cycle to make sure the insulation is free of soapy residue. Then, before adding the puffer jacket, apply the mild detergent to the washer drum. To assist in balancing the washer load, add a few microfiber towels if you are just washing one jacket at a time.
Hand Washing
- Pour cold water into a bathtub, plastic tub, or large sink. To ensure the detergent is distributed, add the mild detergent and use your hand to swish the water.
- To ensure it is completely soaked with the solution, add the puffer jacket and gently press it down into the water.
- Give the jacket half an hour to soak.
- Empty the soapy water.
- Squeeze the jacket gently to discharge the soapy water after filling the sink with cold water. Continue doing this until the water has no more suds.
- Don’t wring; instead, gently squeeze out the extra water!
To get rid of as much water as you can, lay the jacket flat on a big, thick towel and roll it up.
