Let’s face it – getting back with an ex can be pretty difficult. But, that’s where you come in! If you want to get your ex back, you’re going to have to work hard to succeed. Fortunately, there are many ways to do just that, and we’re here to give you some insight into how to get your ex back.
Check your ego at the door and do this for the right reasons. That’s right, we’re not asking you to lower your standards. Instead, we’re encouraging you to think about getting your ex back from a positive perspective.
The more you work on re-establishing those past connections, the more likely you are to succeed in getting your ex back. With that being said, it doesn’t mean you won’t have to make some sacrifices. In fact, we’re going to list out some of the things you might have to cut out in order to get your ex back again.
1. Plan your strategy before you act
The first thing you can do to get your ex back is plan a strategy. This might sound a little bit basic, but it’s important to have a plan before you start acting. You want to make sure you have made a list of all the things that are bothering your ex and what your goals are for getting them back.
If you know exactly what needs to happen in order to get your ex back, it will be much easier for you. Once you have this list, start working on those items one by one. It will take time, but if you work hard enough and put in the effort, there’s nothing that can keep you from getting your ex back again.
2. Always be honest
One of the most effective ways to get your ex back is to be honest with them. Simply put, if you want to get back together with your ex, don’t play games. You need to be direct and upfront about what you want – it’s not enough just to show up at their door on Valentine’s Day with a chocolate heart.
Instead, tell them that you have feelings for them and that you wish they were in your life again. Share with them the things you miss about your relationship and what has changed since it ended. Make sure that they know how much they mean to you and how much their presence in your life would mean.
3. Make time for your ex
If there’s one thing that will get your ex back, it’s time. Spending more time with your ex can help rekindle those old feelings. And if you want to show them how much you care, try cooking for them or taking them out for a date night.
The amount of time you spend with your ex is very important in the relationship-recovery process. By getting back into the routine of spending time together, you might just be able to get back on track.
4. Be patient and persistent
One of the most important things you can do is be patient. You may not see any progress right away, but as long as you keep putting in the work, then you’ll eventually get back that person you love.
If you start to feel discouraged, just remember that it’s going to be worth it in the end. The other thing we would like to mention is being persistent. It might take a while before your ex opens up to you again, but be persistent and they will come around eventually.

This is a difficult process and it might seem discouraging at first because it may take time for your ex to adjust to their emotions. The more time they have to think about what happened between the two of you, the more likely they are to want you back by their side. In this case, persistence pays off!
5. Be a better person
It’s no secret that ego can play a huge role in the success (or failure) of getting back with an ex. Make sure your reasons for wanting to get back together are genuine and not just because you want to feel good about yourself.
Ask yourself, is this what you really want or is it because they’ve seen someone else? The moment you start putting yourself first, your partner will follow suit.
You need to take care of your mental health before anything else. When you make sacrifices for your partner’s happiness, they will do the same for you. Remember that being a better person doesn’t mean lowering your standards – it means not being selfish!
6. Get your ex to see things from your perspective
One of the best ways to get your ex back is to get them to see things from your perspective. Remember, when you were still in love with them, they had a different point of view and they saw things differently. Communicating those feelings can help you win your ex back.
Do these 7 things and you’re almost there!
- Don’t play games
- Don’t be needy
- Be happy, but not too happy
- Don’t talk about the past too much
- Let them come to you, don’t chase
- Give them space and time
- Keep your friends close
7. Focus on the relationship, not the romance
The most important thing to do while trying to get your ex back is focus on the relationship, not the romance. We know it sounds cliché and overdone, but it’s the only way to win your ex back.
Some of you might be thinking about how you can create a romantic gesture for your ex to let them know you really care. But, we advise against that approach.
That’s because if you focus too much on romance and try to do something over-the-top, you might end up scaring your ex away yet again. Remember that if you want to get your ex back, the relationship is what matters – not the romance.
With that being said, we still believe in doing romantic things for your partner and going out on dates with them occasionally. However, they should be done sparingly, as they should never take center stage when trying to win back your ex.
8. Grow beyond just friendship
There are a few things you need to focus on in order to win your ex back. The first one is the most obvious – stop being “just friends.” If you want to get your ex back, you have to grow beyond just being friends.
That means don’t be their shoulder to cry on or their go-to person for advice; do more than just offer a listening ear and some comforting words. If you want to get your ex back, it’s time for more than just platonic gestures.
You have to demonstrate that you’re interested in them and what they have to say. Take the time and energy to listen, offer comfort, and spend time with them–even if they’re not showing interest in getting back together with you.
9. Show that you’ve changed
If you’ve changed since the break-up, it’s important to show your ex that. You might even have to make some sacrifices in order to do so. For example, if you were a devoted smoker before but have now quit, it would be important to let your ex know that.
It will show them that you are willing to change for them and are more serious about the relationship than before. Be sure to also show your ex how much they mean to you. The more romantic gestures you can make, the better chance you’ll have of getting them back.
And lastly, keep yourself stoked with new hobbies or interests! Show your ex that you can go out and enjoy life without them – and even have fun doing so!
