How To Detect Original Silk Material

Yes, good quality things do cost a lot and silk materials are not left out. If you make your way into a textile or fabric shop and realise that the price of the silk material or silk material dress is very cheap you should be suspicious of it.
Though it won’t really break the bank to get a silk material you should be more alert if you realize that the price tag is very low you would need to be careful.
Appearance
The visual distinction between genuine silk and its imitations is unmistakable. The sheen of silk is unlike any other fabric and just cannot be duplicated.
The triangular prism-like structure of silk threads, which are prized for their shimmering qualities, not only contributes to its brilliance but also enables it to reflect light in a variety of ways.
This enables a multicoloured shine because it bends light in a variety of ways to produce a rainbow of colours.
With synthetic fibres, the fabric may appear to shimmer, yet no matter the angle, all that shines through is white.
Burn test
Unless you want to risk entirely damaging your silk fabric, we wouldn’t really advise using this procedure, but the accuracy of the results is unmatched.
By gently applying a lighter to the fabric, you can use your sense of smell to distinguish between the scent of burning real silk and burning synthetic textiles.
Real silk burns with a smell akin to burning hair and emits brittle ash. When the flame is extinguished, the burning will stop.
It’s not real silk if there isn’t any ash and it smells like burning plastic.
The ring test
Put any jewellery ring you happen to have on hand on the fabric. See how it operates by gently pulling the silk through the centre of the ring.
Synthetic fibres typically bunch up or get snagged on the ring, whereas real silk should easily slide through it without any problems.
