In recent years, fo-ti has gained popularity as a component of dietary supplements, hair products, and hair treatments, such as scalp lotions and serums.
Like many Chinese herbs, fo-ti is most effective when it is unprocessed and uncooked. There are numerous ways to consume fo-ti, including as a treatment to get rid of already-existent grey hair. To make an oral tonic, the fo-ti root is traditionally cooked in black bean juice.
