How To Shave Your Face As A Woman

Women all have facial hair. There are two varieties: terminal hair and vellus hair. The peach-coloured hair that covers much of your face and torso is called vellus hair. Its function is to control temperature and remove sweat.

Very fine and transparent, vellus hair. You might be able to notice vellus hair on your cheeks, forehead, upper and lower lips, neck, chin, and sideburn area if you closely examine your face, especially in direct sunshine.
The hair at the ends is thicker and darker. Some women have terminal hair on their chin, neck, sideburns, and upper and lower lips. Both terminal and vellus hair on the face can be removed with shaving.

What are the pros of shaving your face

Clean Face

Shaving your face gets rid of hair, dirt, extra oil, and dead skin cells, which can make your skin look more youthful. This makes makeup easier to apply and keeps it on longer.

Self-confidence

People who have facial hair can feel self-conscious. It probably makes sense for you to shave if doing so would make you feel more assured and better about your look.

What are the cons of shaving your face

Shadow

You might need to shave more frequently to keep terminal hair under control if you’re shaving to eradicate it. After shaving, you could notice a shadow under the skin if you have a lot of dark hair.

Ingrown hair

Ingrown hairs are not brought on by shaving vellus hairs, however, they may appear after shaving terminal hair.

Harm to the skin

Nicks and cuts that could bleed and hurt are possible during shaving. Razor burn can also result from shaving.

Itching and dryness

Shaving could make your skin much drier and more painful if you already have dry skin. Additionally, it could lead to flaking and irritation. Your chances of avoiding this “con” should increase if you moisturize right away.

How should one shave their face?

Women should shave their faces differently from men, and vice versa. Additionally, it’s different from how you shave your underarms and legs.

How to properly shave your face

  • First, thoroughly clean and dry your skin. Typically, shaving for the face is done on bare skin with no shaving cream or other products. Dry shaving may irritate the skin for certain ladies. If so, apply cream, moisturizing lotion, or shaving gel to your face before shaving.
  • Use a single-blade, a straight-edge razor made exclusively for shaving women’s faces. These items are also referred to as dermaplaning instruments or razors for shaving the eyebrows.
  • Never use a dull razor to protect your skin from nicks or irritation
  • Hold the skin taut with one hand while shaving. Apply as little pressure as you can while holding the razor at a 45-degree angle and gently grazing the skin. Always shave against the grain of the hair, never the other way around.
  • Every time you use the razor, rinse it.
  • If you’re not totally confident in your razor skills, avoid shaving close to your eyes.
  • Rinse your face after shaving, and then apply moisturizer right away.

Will shaving my facial hair make it thicker when it grows back?

Hair feels coarse and blunt after shaving because it blunts the edges. This could give the impression that your hair has grown thicker or darker.

Shaving, however, has no effect on the thickness or colour of facial hair. Until they fully grow out, it may make terminal hairs feel harsher to the touch.
