Your adversary is oil

First off, oil is your enemy. “Even when mascara is dried, oil in our skin or creamy cosmetics placed around the eyes can cause the colour of the mascara to transfer onto skin.” Even if you have dry skin, sweating and heat can make mascara run.

Cleanse your face of any natural oils before you start putting on makeup. Use a lightweight moisturizing face cream afterwards, but avoid applying it too closely where it can go on your lash line.

Your ally is a primer

Regardless of your skin tone, prepping your eyelids and the area under your eyes is essential to preventing smudging since it will stop oils from penetrating your mascara and changing the formula.

How to apply mascara that won’t smudge

Once you’ve covered all your bases, it’s time to put on your mascara. Start with freshly cleaned lashes. If your lashes still have mascara on them, extra mascara will likely smear and fall out when you apply it.

After cleaning them, use your preferred mascara as usual. Apply mascara from the root of the bottom lashes, avoiding the tips, if you use mascara on your lower lashes and still experience smudge problems. By doing this, you will prevent mascara from coming into contact with the skin around your eyes.
