How To Gum Off Your Dress

Yikes. So you just found gum on your clothes. “What should I do?” you’re thinking. Don’t be concerned. Because we have 11 different ways to remove gum from clothing.

Because each option involves common household items, the journey should be quick and painless. In fact, you might have a few of these items in your luggage even if you’re out and about when you find the gum!

Using a cloth, apply to rub alcohol. It should be rubbed into the gums. It’s fine if the rubbing alcohol gets on your clothes; it won’t stain them. Use a butter knife to carefully scrape the gum from the garments after it starts to loosen. Do your normal laundry.

How To Gum Off Your Dress

Detergent

Over the gum, pour liquid laundry detergent.
Saturate the detergent into and around the gums with a toothbrush.
Scrape the gum from the garments using a butter knife.
With your fingernails, scrape away the excess gum.
Wash as usual, and if necessary, use a laundry stain remover.

Toothpaste

Apply a small amount of toothpaste to your gums.
Flatten the toothpaste into the gums with the heel of your hand or an old ruler.
Allow for thorough drying of the toothpaste.
The gum should be firm when it’s dry. Furthermore, the toothpaste should have reduced the gum’s stickiness. Remove the gum by peeling or scraping it off.
Wash the fabric as usual.

Vinegar Application

Microwave one cup of distilled white vinegar for 30 seconds.
Brush the gums with a toothbrush dipped in vinegar. While the vinegar is still hot, do this.
Rep until the gum is all gone.
If necessary, use a stain remover to wash the item once the gum has lifted.

Using an iron

On your ironing board, place piece of cardboard. Place the gum-stained garment on top of the cardboard, the gum facing the cardboard.
Set the iron to medium temperature.
Iron the fabric from the back.
Gum should start to stick to the cardboard.
Rep until the gum is no longer visible on the shirt.
You may need to reposition the cardboard so that the gum adheres to different area.
When the gum has been removed, wash the clothing as usual.
Freezing the Clothes

Fold the shirt so that the gum is facing outwards.
Place the item in a plastic bag. Ensure that the gum does not adhere to the bag. Place the garment on top of the plastic bag if you can’t think of another way.

Freeze the bag and garment for two hours, or until the gum is completely frozen.

Remove the gum from the freezer and scrape it off with a butter knife as soon as possible. If you don’t freeze the gum hard enough before doing this, it will adhere to your clothes again.

Alcohol Consumption

Using a sponge or cloth, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol.
Begin massaging the alcohol into your gums. It may take a few minutes for this to begin working. Remember that rubbing alcohol will not discolour clothing if it comes into touch with it.
Use a butter knife to carefully scrape the gum from the fabric once it has begun to release.
Do your normal laundry.
