In all the excitement surrounding the new Master Duel kits, it’s easy to forget that the most important controller parts of them remain unchanged from previous versions of these kits. These are your standard A and B inputs, which, for those who weren’t aware, stand for player one and player two.
If you want to play as Player 2 in a local session with Master Duel, you might struggle to find information about how to get your controller to work with Player 2 mode enabled.

What You Need To Know About Controllers and Duel Mode
Before we get into the details of how to set up your controller for playing as Player 2, we need to know exactly what the properties of controllers are in Master Duel, and what kind of functionality you should be expecting from your controller.
- Controllers have 2 Modes: Single Duel Mode, and Dual Duel Mode.
- Single Duel Mode sends inputs to the currently selected console.
- Dual Duel Mode sends inputs to both consoles.
- Controllers can be connected to both consoles at once, as long as you have a splitter for them.
- Changing the mode of the controller will change the inputs.
- Controllers can be used in PC, but only if the PC supports them.
- Playing on PC might require rebinding the controls.

How to Connect a Controller for Master Duel
If you have a controller that you want to connect to both consoles for player 2 mode, you will have to use a splitter. Controllers can only be connected to one console at a time, so if you have a controller connected to console A and you want to connect it to console B, you will need to use a splitter.

Once you have a splitter and your controller is connected to the correct inputs, it should function the same way as a single-console controller, and you can use it for both players.
Change Player 2 Start Button to A
You can change the start button for Player 2 to any valid input on a single-Duel mode controller by going to the Controller options screen from the main menu. You can find the Controller Options screen by going to the Options tab, then selecting Controller Options.
Once you’re in the controller options screen, go to the Inputs section and select the input where you want to change the button for the Start button.
There are a few different options for what kind of input you can change the start button to, but the most useful one is A. This changes the start button to a single button press on the A input. You can then activate Start on the second controller by pressing B.
You can also change the start button to the A input on the second controller by pressing B on the first controller. This will allow you to use a single-button input on both controllers.
Change Player 2 B button to Y

Add an Extra Triggers Switch for Player 2
Unfortunately, there is no way to add extra triggers to a single-Duel mode controller. You can only add extra triggers to a Dual Duel mode controller, and even then, it’s only possible with a few specific controllers.
If you have a Dual Duel mode controller, you can add an extra triggers switch to the controller by going to the Controller options screen from the main menu. You can find the Controller Options screen by going to the Options tab, then selecting Controller Options.
Once you’re in the controller options screen, go to the Inputs section and select the input where you want to add the extra triggers switch. If you have a Dual Duel mode controller, you have two extra triggers inputs on the B input.
You can add an extra triggers switch to either of these inputs by selecting one of the options from the drop-down menu. You can add one extra triggers switch for each trigger input on the B input. If you want two extra triggers switches for Player 2, you need two Dual Duel mode controllers.
How to Set Up Your Controller for Player 2 in Master Duel
Once you’ve set up your controller to work as Player 2 in a single-Duel mode or a Dual Duel mode controller, you can start playing as Player 2 in a Master Duel session. First, make sure both consoles are connected and that you’re using a Dual Duel mode controller.
Then, on the first console, select Player 2, and the second console will automatically select Player 1. If you’re using a single-Duel mode controller, you can only use it for Player 2 if Player 1 doesn’t select it as an option.
If Player 1 does select the single-Duel mode controller, you need to change the inputs on both controllers to match the controller you want to use for Player 2.
Tips for Playing as Player 2 in a Duel
