Flannel shirts can be any shirt created from the flannel fabric. For the purposes of this post, when I say flannel, I’m referring to the thick casual shirts with (sometimes loud and colourful) check patterns that I imagine most of us think of when we hear the word.

When to wear a flannel shirt
Flannel shirts can actually be worn at anytime not minding the weather as long you are comfortable wearing them.
How to wear a flannel shirt
Jeans and boots – The most basic method to wear a flannel shirt is like this. Simply wear it with your favourite pair of jeans and a pair of tough boots. It doesn’t really matter what kind of pants you wear. It looks terrific with both slim and wide-leg jeans, in my opinion. Because my shirt is so black, I like to pair it with dark jeans. It will look just as beautiful with light blue pants if yours is lighter.
Wear over a t-shirt open – Because flannel is thick, it can be used as an outer layer. It’s ideal for when the weather is too hot for a jacket but you still need an extra layer. Because flannel shirts usually have a lot going on, opt for a plain t-shirt to balance things out.
The ideal colour for your ensemble will be determined by the colour of your shirt, but grey, navy, and white are safe bets that many of us already own.
With a denim jacket and boots -Denim jackets and boots are two pieces that wonderfully complement the rustic vibe of flannel shirts. When paired with jeans or chinos, this looks great. I like to pair this outfit with a pair of hefty worker boots or desert boots. Boots with a more formal appearance don’t look as good.
I have a pair of black Chelsea boots that aren’t appropriate for this look. My dark blue pants and boots look great with my black denim blazer. However, depending on the colour of your shirt, I believe almost any colour will work.
Under a thick sweater – For two reasons, I like wearing my flannel shirt under a sweater. The first is that it is really hot. This combination is sufficient to carry me through even the coldest days. Second, I appreciate how the check pattern catches the attention around the wrists and at the colour.
This looks best with thick, simple sweaters, in my opinion. For many combinations, a patterned sweater with a check shirt could be too much. Cardigans can be worn over a flannel shirt as well.
With chinos and sneakers – While I usually wear flannel shirts with jeans, I think they also look good with chinos. The top outfit’s beige chinos go well with the shirt and jacket. Different coloured chinos, on the other hand, will go with different coloured shirts.
The canvas sneakers add a relaxed weekend vibe to the look. I also believe that the denim jacket in this photograph could simply be replaced with a different sort of casual jacket. An overshirt or a leather jacket, for example.
