Difference Between Valances, Swags, And Cornices
Simple Valances
A valance is a strip of cloth that drapes over the top of a window to conceal the hardware of other window treatments and to provide texture, colour, and pattern. The most straightforward and informal solution is a simple valance, which is sometimes just a piece of cloth fastened to the rod using clip rings or a rod pocket.
Pleated Valances
A box-pleated valance is more formal and classic than a plain valance because of its sewn pleats, which allow it to hang straight over the window. Usually, it is fastened to the window using an L-shaped rod.
Swags or Scarves
To add a little flair and romance to your space, swags are lengths of fabric that are loosely hung and draped over decorative rods or coiled over tiebacks at each corner of window frames.
