How to wash your dread locks
- Thoroughly wet your dread locks and scalp.
- Pour a small amount of shampoo into your fingers and massage it through your hair. You can always add more later if necessary. Because some dreadlock shampoos are manufactured with natural components, they will not produce a lot of lather. But don’t be concerned! They’re still functional!
- Start massaging your scalp with your fingertips once you’ve created enough lather. Maintain a calm but thorough approach.
- Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water. Allow the shampoo to run through your dreads to clean them without you having to touch them. This is especially effective if you have new locks that are still fragile and tender. It will not jeopardize all of your hard work.
- Give your dreads a good milking if you have mature dreads. This will suffice in cleaning them.
- One more time, shampoo. Allow the shampoo to sit on your scalp for a few minutes to allow the chemicals to work their magic on your hair. Rinse well. When you’re through, you’ll notice how clean your scalp is. You can shampoo again if necessary.
Follow this process once every week to maintain good hygiene on your locks, if you happen to just get a new dreadlock wait till it is a week old before you wash it.
You should also note that using conditioner is not too good for your locks as they tend to sit on your hair instead opt for a hot oil treatment.
